THE Adelaide 36ers and NBA franchise the Brooklyn Nets have agreed to terms for the release of the Sixers’ former captain Mitch Creek.

Adelaide had filed an injunction to stop Basketball Australia giving Creek a clearance to sign with the Nets in a bid to secure compensation.

The club was reportedly seeking $100,000 if Creek is offered a spot on the roster. The Sixers said last night that terms of the agreement were confidential.

Adelaide said in a statement last night that it has loved being a part of Creek’s journey over the last eight years and is thrilled to have played a role in the opportunity he has worked so hard for and thoroughly deserves.

Creek’s former team-mate import Josh Childress had slammed his former club on Thursday over its injunction to stop Creek’s clearance to the NBA.

“This is awful,” Childress said on social media. “Whoever is pushing this will lose you a lot of fans and potential players.”

Childress has played at four NBA teams - including Brooklyn - and is currently playing in the Big3 competition as co-captain of the Ball Hogs.

The 36ers chief executive Ben Kavenagh defended the move on Thursday after lodging the injunction earlier in the week .

“We are ensuring in the event that he gets a spot on the final roster that there is some sort of compensation (for Adelaide),” 36ers chief executive Ben Kavenagh said this week. “It’s a due diligence procedure.
