Jacob Wiley is all but certain to leave the Adelaide 36ers by triggering his European buy-out clause but the club has a ready-made replacement waiting in the wings.
The Advertiser understands Wiley will not return to Adelaide for the second year of his contract which was extended in February with overseas reports linking him to Greek club Panathinaikos.
But firmly on their radar is US power forward Eric Griffin who has most recently been playing in Israel and has G-League experience with the Salt Lake Stars in Utah where he met Adelaide coach Joey Wright. He later signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz in 2017, having been contracted to the Dallas Mavericks in 2014.
Griffin, 29, is listed as 203cm and 87kg and is known for his athleticism, ability to pass the ball and play strong defence.
The 36ers made no official comment on Monday but the club is expecting to lose Wiley after he starred in France in recent months.
In other basketball news, newly signed 36er Alex Mudronja and fellow Sturt young gun Isaac White were on Monday named in the Emerging Boomers team for the World Uni Games in Italy next month.
