Adelaide 36ers have signed a US college talent and a pair of Australian veterans as they ramp up their bid for a return to the National Basketball League finals.

Former Fresno State point guard Deshon Taylor was on Thursday morning unveiled as the SA club’s third and final import in its off-season recruitment drive.

The 188cm Californian was joined by experienced arrivals Kevin White, from Illawarra Hawks, and Daniel Dillon, who was presently playing in France.

Taylor inked a one-year deal with the Sixers after averaging 17.9 points, five assists and 3.7 rebounds per game for the NCAA division one Bulldogs this past campaign.

Adelaide coach Joey Wright said the two-time All Mountain West Conference first-teamer would boost his side’s hopes of improving on last summer’s fifth-place finish.

“He’s a tough defender, he gets after it, he’s always ready to play and he brings it, but he’s got the ability to shoot the ball as well,” said Wright, of Taylor.

“He’s a guy that has done it the hard way (and) had to transfer into a higher program in college.

“(He is) a kid that we’re really looking forward to coming in and really making his mark on the NBL.”

Taylor, 23, spent his freshman year at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, before shifting to Fresno, where he averaged 16 ppg during three seasons.

He would link up with ex-Hawks captain White, eight years after the 211-game NBL stalwart debuted for Sydney Kings.

Wright said the 187cm guard would compliment the leadership of Brendan Teys, who this week committed to his seventh season with the club.

“The bottom line is, we felt like we weren’t tough enough last year,” three-time coach of the year Wright said.

“We felt like a lot of guys backed away and backed off and one of those things Kevin White brings is toughness and leadership.

“We wanted to bring along another glue guy to go along with Teysey.

“A lot of what Teysey does is off the court, around the locker room and also the thing he does on the court is playing D and moving the ball to the right spot.”

Melbourne-born Dillon joined the 36ers following a hoops journey which had taken in the University of Arizona, as well as Cairns Taipans and Melbourne Tigers domestically.

Wright said the 33-year-old point guard, who was playing for Paris in the French second-tier following stints in Romania, Poland and Japan, would add quality and versatility.

Daniel Dillon, in action for Cairns Taipans in 2011, has signed a two-year contract with Adelaide 36ers.

“Dan is one of those guys that we wanted to bring in with some leadership qualities,” said Wright, after Dillon signed a two-year contract.

“He has the ability to play great defence, which is what he’s done all of his career wherever he’s been.

“He will definitely come in and take on a big role for us ... and we’ll look for him to get some points on the board as well.”

Adelaide had also secured the services of SA-born St Mary’s College freshman Alex Mudronja.

The Sturt Sabres product, 19, would spend the first season of his three-year deal as a development player, before progressing to a rostered spot.

“We take the recruiting process very seriously,” Wright said.

“The process is one of the most important processes of developing a great team.

“It’s about bringing in the right people.

“The guy’s that we’re bringing in are all coming in for specific reasons.”
