Michael Voss remains in contention for the North Melbourne senior role despite his unwillingness to participate in a full-blown interview process.

The Roos continue to hone their list of candidates for their vacant role but are in no particular hurry given they hope to have the position filled by late November.

Voss has made clear having missed several roles in recent seasons he does not want to be a high-profile participant in a role he could eventually miss.

North Melbourne is aware of his stature and credentials so could decide at a later date having interviewed other candidates that it wants to bring him in for a final interview.

St Kilda’s Alan Richardson was hired by the club in a similar way while at Port Adelaide as an assistant coach, with premiership coach Mark Williams the nominal coach until the last few days.

He told the Herald Sun’s Sacked podcast he asked for a long-term deal which made St Kilda wary.

Then Richardson was parachuted in at the last minute and became St Kilda’s coach.

North Melbourne has made clear it has no preordained ideas about what kind of coach it wants, keen to canvas the industry for the best candidate regardless of age or experience.
