West Coast forward Tyler Brockman will face court in July after being charged with multiple traffic offences after fleeing a single-person accident in Geraldton earlier this month.

The former Hawk Brockman was charged by police after returning from a family funeral on May 4 and crashing into a light post before leaving the scene of the collision.

A WA police spokesman said on Sunday the 21-year-old left the collision after driving his ute into the light post while attempting to navigate a roundabout.

“It will be further alleged the accused returned to the crash site a short time later to remove the vehicle prior to police arrival,” a WA Police spokesperson said.

“Neither the crash or the damage to the property was reported to police.”

Brockman has been charged with careless driving, failing to report and accident and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Brockman crossed from Hawthorn to the Eagles citing homesickness over summer given a young family and while he is an exciting prospect he has played only six games so far without kicking a goal.

He will face Geraldton Magistrates Court on July 5.

The Eagles released a statement after his accident citing “complex” personal circumstances.

“The West Coast Eagles have become aware of a traffic accident that occurred in Geraldton early Saturday morning involving Tyler Brockman, who attended a family funeral on Friday afternoon,” the statement read.

“Tyler’s personal circumstances are complex, and the club will prioritise his health and wellbeing ahead of any return to playing football.”
