Port Adelaide has suffered two pre-season injury blows, with small forward Sam Gray and defender Trent McKenzie undergoing surgery.
Gray, 26, has had a longstanding right ankle injury repaired but is expected to resume full training early next year and should be available for the pre-season JLT Community Series.
Gray, who played 19 games and kicked 21 goals this year, carried the soreness in the back half of the season and it was hoped that it would fully recover with rest.
But after returning to pre-season training this month, the soreness returned and he had arthroscopic surgery to try to fix the problem.
McKenzie, who played just one AFL game for the Power — in round four against Essendon — after crossing from Gold Coast, has had surgery on his right shoulder.
The 26-year-old injured his shoulder at training late last week and underwent shoulder labral repair surgery on Tuesday.
He will be restricted to limited training until the new year before his condition is reassessed.
