PORT Adelaide midfielder Brad Ebert has given the first part of the season a pass mark but says there’s still improvement in the Power.
Ebert was critical of the club’s goalkicking in China, where it beat the Gold Coast, but said losses such as the one against West Coast in Perth could now be put in perspective with the Eagles firming as the team to beat this season.
The Power is sitting sixth on the ladder with a 6-3 record and has a bye before heading to Tasmania to face Hawthorn next weekend.
“I think we’re playing some pretty decent football,” Ebert said.
“We feel like we’ve lost a couple of games that we shouldn’t have lost.
“But we’re in a position where we’re looking to improve, obviously, but I think we’re starting to get the things right that we’ve been working on and hopefully we can just pick it up another notch to go from here.”
After the loss to the Eagles in Round 7 the Power has bounced back with a win in the Showdown and the Shanghai game and corrected what was a blight in Western Australia: it’s contested possessions.
But with the Eagles storming to the top of the ladder, Ebert said the Power had realised that loss — as much as it stung at the time — was not as damning as first thought.
“We were really disappointed with it and felt that we played poorly over there but then you look at every team ... every team is playing poorly (against West Coast) because of the way they play,” Ebert said on Adelaide radio station Triple M.
“Sometimes you’ve got to put things in perspective.
“But for us, I think we’re in a decent position.”
