Port Adelaide star Robbie Gray has signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at Alberton until the end of 2021, turning his back on a potential free agency move.

Gray has been one of Power’s greatest draft steals, arriving at the club with pick 55 in the 2006 draft and has kicked 318 goals in 218 games.

The 31-year-old said he was delighted to extend his time at the club.

“It’s a nice feeling to sign another contract extension,” he said.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity Port Adelaide has given me, and to extend my time here for another year is great for me and my family.

“We have a young and exciting list and I’m eager to be a part of that for as long as possible.”

Earlier in the pre-season, Gray said he was excited by the future stars coming through, including last year’s draftees.

“The young boys have fitted in really well, I think we’ve got some players there,’’ Gray said on SEN.

“Obviously the blokes who came in last year had a real impact for us and these young boys are looking pretty good as well, so it’s exciting.

“Young boys these days come in pretty well prepared, they’re really well trained up these day and that’s why you see them come in and able to AFL footy early on, that’s change a little bit.

“It’s a big step up for them, but they handle it really well, keen to learn, keen to work hard,’’ he said.

Port’s general manager of football Chris Davies said it was great to secure Gray’s services for another season.

“Rob has been an outstanding player for our team over a long period of time now,” he said.

“However, his importance to our club both on and off the field cannot be overstated.

“He’s had a strong pre-season, and has provided amazing assistance for our young group.

“We’re pleased he’ll remain at the club until at least the end of the 2021 season.”
