Multiple Victorian clubs are ready to Sam Gray while Billy Frampton is edging closer to the Crows

Clubs continue to show interest in Port’s Sam Gray, but his destination might be dependent on other player movements. And Billy Frampton might not have to move far to find a new home.

Up to four clubs remain keen on luring Sam Gray from Port Adelaide, but where the consistent small forward will continue his AFL career is set to depend on where other players end up.

And young tall Billy Frampton is closing in on a move to fierce rivals Adelaide, with the Crows describing the three-game ruck/forward as a “talented young player”.

Despite being one of Port’s most consistent players, finishing as the club’s third highest goalkicker behind Connor Rozee and Robbie Gray, the 27-year-old was allowed to explore options at other AFL clubs.

The Advertiser understands that up to four clubs are continuing to show interest in Gray.

But any deal is set to be dependent on what other targets the clubs are able to secure.

Carlton is one club that has shown interest in Gray as the Blues seek to bolster their small forward stocks.

But Tom Papley has told Sydney that he wants to be traded to the Blues, who also are chasing Gold Coast Suns’ Jack Martin and have continually been linked with Adelaide Crows star Eddie Betts.

St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs have also been linked with a move for Gray.

Gray is one of several Port Adelaide players who are set to depart Alberton in the off-season.

All-Australian ruckman and 2017 club best-and-fairest Paddy Ryder has officially nominated St Kilda as the club he wants to go to.

Frampton is set to make the move to Port’s fierce rivals Adelaide after informing the club on Monday that he wants to leave Alberton.

The 22-year-old has managed just three games for Port since being picked up in the 2014 draft, but a Crows spokesman told The Advertiser he had fans at West Lakes.

“He is obviously a talented young player and we will see how things play out in the next week or two,” he said.

Frampton would be able to have a crack at a starting spot for the Crows as a tall forward, providing back-up for Reilly O’Brien in the ruck — similar to the role the departing Josh Jenkins has played for the club in the past.

Dougal Howard is also continuing to receive significant interest from a number of Victorian clubs, including Essendon, North Melbourne, St Kilda and Collingwood.

Port do see a future for Howard at the club, but have told the 23-year-old that it is as a forward rather than as a defender.
