Port Adelaide is set to lose another tall with ruckman/forward Billy Frampton informing the club he wishes be traded.

Frampton, 22, is seeking more opportunities at AFL level after managing just three AFL games since being picked up in the 2014 draft.

Frampton’s request follows a similar move from ruckman Paddy Ryder who is seeking a trade to St Kilda.

Frampton, who is out of contract, played two AFL games this season, impressing with 3.1 against Gold Coast in Round 9 before managing just two kicks and seven handballs for one behind in a loss against Hawthorn in Round 10.

Regardless of Ryder’s impending departure, Frampton still sits behind Scott Lycett and Peter Ladhams in the ruck pecking order, with talented 20-year-old Sam Hayes also expected to push for selection in the next couple of years.

In attack, he has to muscle past Charlie Dixon, young gun Todd Marshall and Dougal Howard, who is tipped to move forward on a permanent basis if he sticks with the Power.

Frampton booted 34 goals and averaged 14 disposals from 14 SANFL games this year and featured in the Magpies’ losing grand final team after having a striking charge overturned.

Advertiser columnist Kane Cornes told AFL Trade Radio that Adelaide and Fremantle would be his leading suitors.

“I think he personally fits in at Adelaide ... who are desperate for a back-up to Reilly O’Brien,” Cornes said.

“I don’t see him as a ruckman who can stand up and play 80 per cent ruck minutes … but he is a forward who can catch the footy and take a contested mark.”

Port Adelaide said in a statement it would work with Frampton and his management to secure an appropriate deal in the trade period, which starts on Monday.
