Melbourne’s Angus Brayshaw at centre of Fremantle trade speculation

Fremantle needs replace departing wingmen Brad Hill and Ed Langdon, and the Dockers appeared to fan the flames of speculation Demon Angus Brayshaw was in their sights.

Fremantle football boss Peter Bell has expressed admiration for Melbourne midfield star Angus Brayshaw after father Mark interviewed for the club’s vacant CEO position.

Angus Brayshaw has three years on his Melbourne contract and the Demons are adamant he is going nowhere.

And the Dockers confirmed that on Monday afternoon, hours after appearing to leave the door ajar for a move.

Melbourne footy boss Josh Mahoney said the Dockers approached the Demons about Brayshaw during today’s trade talks at Marvel Stadium.

“Fremantle said they’re not interested ... I can probably put that out there,” he said.

“Angus is contracted to us, he’s not going anywhere and Fremantle wanted to be very clear. There’s been some reports he’s in Perth, but it was nothing to do with Fremantle Footy Club.”

After a poor 2019 season Brayshaw travelled to Perth for a holiday in recent days, where his brother Andrew plays for the Dockers.

It ignited speculation about the Dockers interest, which Bell didn’t defuse this morning.

“He is a contracted player for Melbourne, a very good player. So prefer not to give a narrative on other players we may or may not be interested in,” he said.

The Dockers are set to lose Ed Langdon to Melbourne and Brad Hill to St Kilda and will be desperate to get some running power back into their side.

Bell made it clear the Dockers wanted a significant pick back for Langdon given his strong midfield gains in recent years.

“He has been top five in our fairest and best in the last two years, very durable player, outstanding character so we value him very highly and there are a lot of clubs that also value him highly,” he said of Langdon.
