Josh Jenkins could be looking at his options after being dropped for the second time in 2019

Will Josh Jenkins remain at Adelaide next season after being dumped on form for the second time in 2019? While the Crows are bullish about keeping him, pundits think otherwise.

Adelaide assistant coach Ben Hart dispelled any thought of rift coach Don Pyke and Josh jenkins after he was dropped for the second time in 2019 for Saturday night’s clash with St Kilda at Adelaide.

“There’s no smoke and mirrors behind Josh being dropped. He’s at the club and he’ll stay at the club and we expect him to be there for a while.,’’ Hart said on SEN radio.

“We are looking for more consistency in all phases of the game from Josh.”

Leading Victorian commentator Gerard Whateley the latest demotion would no doubt have Jenkins weighing up his future in Adelaide.

“It feels for me that Josh (Jenkins) won’t be at Adelaide next year,” Whateley said on AFL360.

Former Western Bulldogs and Richmond coach Terry Wallace said that being dropped so close to finals would only enhance Jenkins’ desire to look elsewhere after 147 games for the Crows.

“He missed over a month of footy earlier in the season and that can happen,” Wallace said on SEN’s The Match Committee.

“They wanted to have a look at what life was like without Josh Jenkins in the side then he comes back and plays some pretty good footy.

“Now it’s happened again. If he doesn’t move now; he won’t be able to move.

“I think there will be suitors for him now, but in 12 months’ time if he played SANFL footy for a period of that, not sure the suitors will be there.”

Wallace said there would be plenty of sides looking to strengthen their forward line options with a player of Jenkin’s ability.

“Him and his management will be looking around,” Wallace added.

“Adelaide would be well aware, dropping him four weeks before finals was going to have that impact.”

Wallace said both the Western Bulldogs and Collingwood could be sides interested in Jenkins who averages two goals a game over his career.

“I think Collingwood would look at another big power forward,’’ Wallace said.

“I think the Bulldogs would be a side that potentially could be having a look for that kind of player.”

Earlier in the week Jenkins said while he was happy living in Adelaide he was well aware of how quickly the landscape can change.

“We’re very entrenched here in Adelaide, I’ve loved playing for the Adelaide Crows, becoming a life member is something I aspire to,’’ Jenkins said on SEN.

“Having bounced around a lot as a youngster I’d love to say I’m a life member of an AFL footy club. But I’m also very aware of the landscape and who’s expendable,’’ he said.
