Eddie Betts reveals rival interest, but no offers on table and he is still contracted for one more year as an Adelaide Crow

Adelaide fan favourite Eddie Betts has reiterated that he expects to see out his contract at the Crows next year, despite rumours suggesting otherwise.

Eddie Betts has quashed reports that he’s played his last game for the Adelaide Football Club.

Reports circulated on Wednesday night that Betts had been delisted following exit meetings which were denied by the 315-game veteran this morning.

“I’m not delisted,’’ Betts said.

“I’m still at the Crows and I’m contracted til 2020.”

Betts, 32, also denied reports there was an two-year deal on the table from the Gold Coast Suns, while he has also been linked with former club Carlton.

“I can say right no there has been no offer,’’ Betts told FIVEaa Breakfast on Thursday morning.

“There has been interest, but no offer … That’s where it’s at.”

When asked again if he’d be playing in the Crows’ red, blue and gold next year, Betts laughingly replied: “You just keep smacking me, hey! I’m contracted for 2020, man.”

Betts was second in the Crows’ goalkicking this year, finishing the season with 37 majors and several chances to add to his three goal-of-the-year awards.

His dumping to the SANFL ahead of the Round 19 clash against former club Carlton sparked rumours the Crows would seek to cut ties at the end of the season and the Blues and Gold Coast were linked with a move for Betts.

“I think when you do get dropped from the team as a senior player, the club’s tendering up to your management saying ‘what’s going on?’,” Betts said.

“Every player gets it and I think what people need to know: I’m contracted to 2020 but everyone’s under scrutiny the whole year. You’ve got the media coming out saying no player’s safe.”

Carlton coach David Teague hinted on Thursday morning that the club wouldn’t chase its former star.

“We need to balance up our list,” Teague, who said his close relationship and “love” for Betts would mean he would excuse himself from any discussion on bringing him back to the Blues, said.

“We’re probably looking down the track.”

Fellow Crows Sam Jacobs, Hugh Greenwood and Alex Keath are other key Crows who have been linked with trades to rival clubs.
