Crows legend Mark Ricciuto questions why Eddie Betts decided to publicly revisit the club’s infamous pre-season camp

Another SA football personality has questioned why Eddie Betts brought up Adelaide’s infamous pre-season camp in a recent interview. It comes as the gun forward responded on social media to criticism over his comments.

Adelaide Football Club legend Mark Ricciuto has joined former teammate Andrew Jarman in questioning why departed forward Eddie Betts chose to revisit the Crows’ infamous pre-season camp in a recent interview.

The three-time All-Australian, who rejoined the Blues during the off-season, said this week that Adelaide’s controversial training camp at the start of 2018 was one reasons he chose to return to Victoria after six seasons in South Australia.

His comments drew the ire of Jarman, who blasted Betts on radio yesterday, where he labelled the mercurial forward a “sook”.

“Why can’t Eddie Betts just let it go? He’s come out and he’s blamed the camp for one of the reasons why he left the Adelaide Crows,” the 110-game inaugural Crow said.

“(The reason why he left is) his best footy was past him.

Mark Ricciuto, Eddie Betts and Andrew Jarman have all had their say on the forward’s departure in the media this week.

“It all started when he got dropped to play Glenelg last year; that’s where it all started.

“I’m disappointed. I’ve loved the way Eddie’s played his football and what he’s done for the footy club.

“Don’t go sooking because your best footy is past you.

“His last two years have been on the decline.”

Betts poked fun at Jarman on Instagram last night, posting a video where he said he’d send the Triple M host a book he wrote about “kindness”.

“Hey Jarsy, I wrote a book about kindness for kids, I’ve got a copy coming your way,” Betts said, with a smile.

“I’ll actually sign it for you too.

“You can rap it, you can sing it, however you want, but it’s all about kindness brother, (and it’s) coming your way.”

Speaking on Triple M this morning, Ricciuto said while Betts was “admirable” in “rejecting the opportunity to take a personal stab at Jars”, he did question why the pre-season camp had to be revisited.

“I don’t know why Eddie did that, whether it was a passing comment in an interview,” the three-time club champion said.

“Now, did he even need to that? Probably not.

“Is he right that the camp had an affect on his form in his last two years at Adelaide? It would’ve had some effect.

“Is it also to do with the whole side underperforming...? Probably more so.

“There’s a lot of reasons why Eddie didn’t have a great two years.

“But at the end of the day, Eddie left to play for Carlton because he wanted to go back to Melbourne with his family.

“The Crows were an ageing list and wanted to get some younger players into the side, and he was told that.

“It was pretty much a win-win for Eddie and for Adelaide, for Eddie to play at Carlton.”
