Carlton fans have welcomed Eddie Betts home with open arms, but South Australian great Andrew Jarman has taken aim at the crowd favourite over why he left the Crows. ROLLING UPDATES
South Australian great Andrew Jarman has taken aim at Carlton recruit Eddie Betts over how he left the Crows.
The three-time All-Australian said this week that Adelaide’s controversial training camp at the start of 2018 was one reason he chose to return to the Blues after six seasons in South Australia.
“There’s a lot of things that went on and a lot of unhappy players,” Betts said.
“It was a part of it, not a full part of it.
“Eventually my family and I were going to move back to Melbourne anyway.
“When the opportunity come up to come back and play for Carlton I took it.”

Speaking on Adelaide radio station Triple M on Wednesday, Jarman, who played 110 games for the Crows, said Betts is fortunate Carlton coach David Teague is his best friend, otherwise he would have been stuck playing out the final year of his Adelaide contract in the SANFL.
“Why can’t Eddie Betts just let it go? He’s come out and he’s blamed the camp for one of the reasons why he left the Adelaide Crows.
“(The reason why he left is) his best footy was past him. It all started when he got dropped to play Glenelg last year; that’s where it all started.
“I’m disappointed. I’ve loved the way Eddie’s played his football and what he’s done for the footy club. Don’t go sooking because your best footy is past you. His last two years have been on the decline.
“Don’t blame the camp. Some of the intel I’ve received about the camp, he was probably one of one a few players who engaged and loved the camp – he actually really enjoyed those four days. It’s two years ago, please let it go.
“It’s only because your best mates the senior coach of the Carlton footy club that you’ve got another opportunity. Otherwise he’d be playing SANFL this year with one year left to go on his contract."
