Taylor Walker call looms as Crows make big list changes in wake of finals exit

As an ‘emotional’ Taylor Walker weighs up his future following Tuesday’s exit meeting, Lachie Murphy’s has been decided for him. Here’s the latest from West Lakes.

Adelaide under fire for pre-game antics

Adelaide star Taylor Walker says he still hasn’t got a timeline on when he will make his decision on whether he will play on in 2026.

The Crows all-time leading goalkicker had his exit interview at West Lakes on Tuesday and the 35-year-old was still non-committal on his future.

“I don’t really have a timeline on it to be honest so we will see how it goes,” he said.

“We will make that decision in due time.”

Earlier, Walker, whose performance against the Hawks was his lowest rated game of the year, revealed the weight of his looming decision.

“I don’t know … I’m still quite emotional about Friday night to be honest,” Walker said on Triple M before joining his teammates at the club.

“I’m going to sit on it for a little bit.”

The decision on Lachie Murphy’s future has been made for him, however, with the Adelaide forward delisted.

The 26-year-old, who was part of the Crows leadership group last year, revealed that he had been given the bad news on Tuesday.

“No good,” he said on whether he got a contract for 2026 after his exit meeting.

“People lose their jobs everyday so it’s not that big of a deal for me.

“We move on.

“There’s worst things happening in the world.”

Murphy ended up playing 120 games for the Crows after coming to South Australia to play for Adelaide’s SANFL side, getting on the list via the 2017 rookie draft.

Adelaide list manager Justin Reid said the way Murphy got onto the Crows’ list was a testament to his hard-work and commitment.

“Lachie has been a really valuable member of our playing list both on and off the field since joining the Club in 2017,” Reid said.

“He moved across to SA to play for our SANFL side and made the jump to the AFL list via the rookie draft in 2017 – which was a testament to his hard-work and commitment.

“On behalf of everyone, I would like to thank Lachie, Madison and the entire Murphy family for his contribution to the Adelaide Football Club over the past nine years and wish him all the best for the future.”

Karl Gallagher has also been delisted.

The 23-year-old Irishman joined the Crows as a Category B rookie last year.

This potentially could have helped his chances to remain on the list, but he didn’t do enough to get a new contract.

“Karl can leave the Club with his head held high, having embraced the challenge of moving to Australia and changing codes,” Reid said.

“We wish Karl all the best on his return to Ireland.”

It means the future of veteran Brodie Smith is also unclear.

Midfielder Harry Schoenberg and key forward Chris Burgess are also in limbo.

Burgess’ future could be dependent on what Walker chooses to do.

Youngsters Zac Taylor and Hugh Bond will sign new deals to remain at West Lakes.
