Adelaide Crows to make trade play for Melbourne star Christian Petracca

The future of Christian Petracca is up in the air – and it might open the door for a shock move, with the Crows set to officially join the race for the Melbourne star.

Adelaide will make a play for Melbourne star Christian Petracca as the Crows target midfield quality.

While there is an acknowledgment internally that they could be an outside chance at best if the Demons star decides to try and leave Melbourne, the Crows are on the lookout for midfield quality following their straight-set exit.

In the Crows favour, however, is that leadership group member Alex Neal-Bullen is good friends with Petracca and head of high performance Darren Burgess worked with him at the Demons.

Midfield quality has been identified as a key area of improvement for the Crows following a disappointing final series.

There is expected to be organic growth as Dan Curtin, Sid Draper and Josh Rachele continue to develop but the Crows will look at the market – although the pool is considered to not be deep.

Interest in Petracca’s teammate Clayton Oliver has cooled significantly after the Crows thought they could get him two years ago.
