SuperCoach PODS: Elliot Yeo headlines Round 10 POD options, Ben Cunnington continues to be overlooked

Elliot Yeo failed to hit the ton until Round 4. Now, the tackling machine is one of the in-form players in the competition and is in just 3.6 per cent of teams. ALL THE RD 10 POD OPTIONS

It’s that time of the year where we need to take a risk or two in SuperCoach.

Buying in players with over 30 per cent ownership won’t see you skyrocket up the rankings as those ahead of you — or your mates in your league — will probably already have that player in their side.

What will set you apart from the rest is a point-of-difference selection — traditionally a player with under 10 per cent ownership.

There’s a bunch of unique options on the market, with some of the top scorers in each position still remaining as PODs.

Who will you take the punt on?

Check out the top POD picks ahead of Round 10:

DEFENCE

TOM STEWART ($508,600)

Average: 103.7

Current Ownership: 7.4 per cent

BE: 95

Whether it’s taking hangers or taking kick-ins, Tom Stewart is doing it all in 2019. There were concerns from SuperCoaches about his output with Zach Tuohy back in the side, but Stewart has continued to thrive. Has posted just one score below 94 points and appears likely to be a top six defender. The only concern is his Round 13 bye.

SHANE SAVAGE ($490,100)

Average: 92

Current Ownership: 0.6 per cent

BE: 75

Virtually untouched after burning SuperCoaches last year, Shane Savage has been running hot in his past five matches, posting four tons at an average of 102.6 Supercoach points. The Saints defender has tallied 25 or more touches in six of his past seven, and should continue to rack up footy in defence. Would be a massive POD buy — owned by under one per cent of SuperCoaches.

BACHAR HOULI ($473,800)

Average: 100.8

Current Ownership: 6.7 per cent

BE: 75

The Tiger veteran produced his fourth ton in six games on the weekend, amassing 35 disposals, 9 marks and 102 SuperCoach points against the Hawks. Narrowly passing 100 points from 30-plus disposals — as he has done the past fortnight — is a worry, but opposition sides seem reluctant to shut him down. With Jayden Short at least a month away, he looms as an attractive option as Richmond’s number one distributor out of defence. Can he steer clear of soft tissue injuries?

MIDFIELD

JOSH KELLY ($615,300)

Average: 115.2

Current Ownership: 8.8 per cent

BE: 82

If you missed out last week, it’s not too late to invest in the Giants star. The smooth moving midfielder scored an effortlessly 131 SuperCoach points on Sunday, and looks set to go large in the next fortnight against the Demons and Suns. Sitting $2.5k below his starting price with a gettable break even, this may be the last week we can jump on.

MITCH DUNCAN ($584,200)

Average: 111.1

Current Ownership: 1 per cent

BE: 80

Geelong’s side is littered with star power and this man continues to fly under the radar in SuperCoach, despite averaging more than 106 points in his past two seasons. Joel Selwood and Gary Ablett moving out of the centre square has seen Duncan go to another level, averaging 111.1 SuperCoach points per game. While he doesn’t have the appeal of other rolled gold options, he has proved he can consistently at a high level — posting five 115-plus totals this season.

ELLIOT YEO ($577,600)

Average: 104.3

Current Ownership: 3.2 per cent

BE: 93

After a dismal start to the season, Elliot Yeo has bounced back in a big way. The Eagles ball-winner has been prolific over the past month, averaging 26 touches, 10.5 tackles and 124.8 SuperCoach points. Yeo laid a whopping 16 tackles against the Dees on his way to a season-high 136, and these numbers should ensure his scoring remains high.

BEN CUNNINGTON ($557,900)

Average: 112.7

Current Ownership: 2.1 per cent

BE: 114

Ben Cunnington continues to put his hand up as a genuine SuperCoach option. A season-low total of 91 points illustrates his steady scoring. The inside bull is a Clayton Oliver clone, ranking first in the competition for stoppage clearances, second for handballs and third for clearances and contested possessions. If you can’t afford Kelly, Fyfe or Macrae, Cunnington is a great value option who should continue to deliver.

FORWARD

DAVID MUNDY ($591,700)

Average: 106.4

Current Ownership: 3.6 per cent

BE: 100

If David Mundy is anything to go by, 33 is the new 25. The Dockers veteran is making those who traded him out pay the ultimate price, averaging a whopping 119.2 SuperCoach points across his last five games. He doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon either, with Nat Fyfe the obvious target for opposition taggers. Is catching Travis Boak in the race for the number one ranked forward.

JACK ZIEBELL ($462,300)

Average: 86.3

Current Ownership: 1.1 per cent

BE: 68

Few would have predicted Jack Ziebell to shoot back into SuperCoach contention, but a return to the midfield has done just that. The Roos skipper put up some massive numbers against the Swans, racking up 25 disposals, 10 marks, eight tackles and 140 points — his third ton in his last four games. This buy isn’t for the faint hearted, but it could be one with massive upside.

ROWAN MARSHALL ($447,900)

Average: 97.7

Current Ownership: 7.8 per cent

BE: 85

POD HQ was watching Rowan Marshall’s game against Brodie Grundy closely, expecting the emerging ruckman to get shown up. However, Marshall managed to reach a promising total of 90 points against the ruck behemoth, showing he can stack up against the best in the competition. He has scored fallen below 90 points just once (against Max Gawn) and provides plenty of value at his discount price tag.
