EVERY PLAYER ANALYSED

* Age as of September 1

1. TOM JONAS

Age: 31 Games: 203 Status: Signed to 2023

The skipper comes out of contract at the end of next season. Remains a tough-as-nails, rarely beaten, old-fashioned defender. Could he hand over the captaincy to deputy Ollie Wines? It feels like he probably has one more year in the role.

2. SAM POWELL-PEPPER

Age: 24 Games: 114 Status: Signed to 2023

Turned his career around after copping an off-season whack from the club about needing to have a strong summer and improve his fitness. The West Australian was a work horse for the Power this season, playing half-forward and even pinch-hitting in the ruck.

3. RYAN BURTON

Age: 25 Games: 117 Status: Signed to 2025

Inked a three-year deal in March and went on to have a consistent season in defence, playing every game for the second successive campaign.

4. TODD MARSHALL

Age: 23 Games: 76 Status: Signed to 2024

One of the best stories at the club this year. Put to rest external doubters by kicking a team-high and career-best 41 majors, including hauls of five in two games and at least one in every match from round 6 onwards.

5. DAN HOUSTON

Age: 25 Games: 121 Status: Signed to 2027

Signed a five-year extension in March, in a big show of faith by the club. Houston has become a very reliable player, splitting his time between half-back and wing this season. Should finish high in the best-and-fairest.

6. STEVEN MOTLOP

Age: 31 Games: 217 Status: Retired

The veteran’s 2022 campaign never really got going. He booted 10 goals from 14 AFL games before retiring last month and heading back to his hometown of Darwin. He plans to play in the NTFL.

7. XAVIER DUURSMA

Age: 22 Games: 46 Status: Signed to 2024

The wingman had a disappointing campaign, struggling to find his best form and featuring just 11 times at the elite level. Karl Amon’s departure should lead to more opportunities next year for Duursma, who extended his contract last December.

8. JOSH SINN

Age: 19 Games: 1 Status: Signed to 2025

Groin injuries spoiled the wingman’s first season on the Power list. Drafted at pick 12, Sinn signed a two-year contract extension in March, before he had played a game. His sole match was against Hawthorn in round 2.

9. ROBBIE GRAY

Age: 34 Games: 271 Status: Retired

The club great announced his retirement ahead of round 23 and the five-time Showdown Medallist put on one last show against the Crows, kicking two goals and having eight score involvements. Gray said his desire to play remained but physically he was done. Set to remain at the Power in an off-field role.

10. TRAVIS BOAK

Age: 33 Games: 327 Status: Signed to 2023

Has inked a one-year extension to take his career into a 17th season. The former captain shows no signs of slowing down and will likely again finish high in the John Cahill Medal.

11. JEREMY FINLAYSON

Age: 26 Games: 86 Status: Signed to 2024

Arrived via trade from GWS on a three-year deal in October and struggled early before impressing — as a ruckman. Stepped in admirably for the injured Scott Lycett and almost played like another midfielder. Does the Power stick with him or revert to Lycett in 2023?

12. TRENT MCKENZIE

Age: 30 Games: 146 Status: Signed to 2023

Played just seven games due to injury, form and Tom Clurey being preferred ahead of him but inked a one-year contract extension late in the season. With the Power looking for a key defender, next year may be his last.

13. ORAZIO FANTASIA

Age: 26 Games: 96 Status: Signed to 2023

Did not take to the field for the Power this season — his sole match was as an unused medical substitute — because of injury. His absence hurt the team’s scoring ability so it will be desperate to get him right.

14. MILES BERGMAN

Age: 20 Games: 33 Status: Signed to 2023

Featured in all bar one AFL game in 2021 but just 10 this year. Karl Amon’s exit should boost his chances of becoming a regular again in the last season of his contract.

15. KARL AMON

Age: 27 Games: 124 Status: Joining Hawthorn as an unrestricted free agent

Reports had linked Amon with a return to Victoria for most of the season and an announcement was confirmed after round 23. The wingman — a bargain of a draft pick for the Power at No. 67 in 2013 — is heading to Hawthorn.

16. OLLIE WINES

Age: 27 Games: 203 Status: Signed to 2026

The consistency of his performances dipped from last year’s Brownlow Medal campaign but the vice-captain still averaged the second-most disposals (28.38) and inside 50s (4.57) of his career. Has four years to run on a contract signed in November 2020.

17. TOM CLUREY

Age: 28 Games: 123 Status: Signed to 2025

For a player who was already contracted until the end of 2023 and had often not been a first-choice key defender the past three seasons, it was surprising that the club tied him down for an extra two years. But Clurey is reliable and, like Boak, Jonas and Wines, has been there for the entire Ken Hinkley era.

18. ZAK BUTTERS

Age: 21 Games: 68 Status: Signed to 2024

Increased his average disposals by four and inside 50s and clearances by one after spending more time in the midfield this year. He and close friend Connor Rozee are quickly becoming the club’s best players. The Power will be glad to have signed him to a two-year extension before this season.

19. MITCH GEORGIADES

Age: 20 Games: 47 Status: Signed to 2023

Wayward goalkicking — he kicked 23.24, as well as several that did not register a score — stopped Georgiades from having a very good third season. You would expect the Power would be keen to re-sign him over summer.

20. CONNOR ROZEE

Age: 22 Games: 81 Status: Signed to 2024

Rozee’s move from the forward line to midfield catapulted him into a star of the competition. Earnt his first All-Australian blazer and should win the best-and-fairest. The Power will be glad to have tied him down in March before his standout campaign.

21. ALIIR ALIIR

Age: 27 Games: 107 Status: Signed to 2024

Was not as consistent as his 2021 All-Australian season and missed three games with injury during the Power’s 0-5 start. Still had plenty of stellar performances, remaining a crucial member of the side.

22. CHARLIE DIXON

Age: 31 Games: 177 Status: Signed to 2023

After playing 42 of 43 games the previous two seasons, Dixon missed 10 this year due to injuries. Spent more time in ruck in Scott Lycett’s absence. Remains a huge influence on the team’s success as he enters the last 12 months of his deal.

23. DYLAN WILLIAMS

Age: 21 Games: 1 Status: Signed to 2023

Williams has X-factor but his lack of endurance is holding him back. Did not play an AFL match this year and was moved from attack to defence in the SANFL. Needs a strong campaign or faces the axe.

24. KANE FARRELL

Age: 23 Games: 49 Status: Signed to 2023

Added another year to his contract in December while he was sidelined with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. One of the club’s best kicks, Farrell moved from a wing to half-back late in the season and looked suited to the role.

25. SAM HAYES

Age: 23 Games: 7 Status: Signed to 2023

The Power is understood to be open to trading him but rival clubs are coy. They wonder why he has fallen behind Brynn Teakle and Jeremy Finalyson in the ruck pecking order with Scott Lycett injured. In his fifth season on the list, Hayes debuted in round 5 and played seven consecutive games but then did not feature again at AFL level. Needs to improve his influence beyond his tapwork.

26. RILEY BONNER

Age: 25 Games: 82 Status: Signed to 2023

Finished last year strongly to earn a new deal and started this season well, then faded. The Power has plenty of half-backs so he will want a strong campaign to stake his claims for an extension.

27. BRYNN TEAKLE

Age: 22 Games: 2 Status: Signed to 2023

Made an exciting debut two weeks after being drafted mid-year, only to break his collarbone that same game. Struggled in his second match but should benefit significantly from an AFL pre-season.

28. WILLEM DREW

Age: 23 Games: 56 Status: Signed to 2024

Played every game for the second consecutive year, proving a very reliable defensive midfielder. Being more damaging is the next step in Drew’s development.

29. SCOTT LYCETT

Age: 29 Games: 132 Status: Signed to 2023

Lycett’s year was ruined by a shoulder injury he sustained against Melbourne in round 4 and he did not play again. Will be interesting to see if the Power reverts to him being the No. 1 ruckman or goes with the more mobile Jeremy Finlayson. Lycett has one more season remaining on the five-year deal he signed after crossing from West Coast.

30. OLLIE LORD

Age: 20 Games: 0 Status: Signed to 2023

The second-year Power tall was moved from attack to defence during the season and impressed enough to be an emergency late in the campaign. Can he break into the AFL team in the final year of his deal?

31. SAM SKINNER

Age: 25 Games: 5 Status: Delisted

Cut last month after playing two matches, in rounds 2 and 3, in his sole season with the Power. Injuries and concussion hampered the ex-Brisbane Lion, who looked a little slow at AFL level.

32. SAM MAYES

Age: 28 Games: 121 Status: Delisted

Another ex-Lion, Mayes was a handy squad player in four seasons on the list but he only cracked into the Power team three times this year — once as an unused medical substitute, another time as a makeshift full-forward. He was axed after round 23.

33. DARCY BYRNE-JONES

Age: 26 Games: 150 Status: Signed to 2026

Played all bar one match this year but was not as consistent as his previous two seasons, when he finished eighth and first in the John Cahill Medal. Last week he re-signed until the end of 2026.

34. LACHIE JONES

Age: 20 Games: 20 Status: Signed to 2024

Played 14 matches during his second season and was often used as a makeshift half-forward. The Next Generation Academy product signed a two-year contract extension at the start of August.

36. JASE BURGOYNE

Age: 19 Games: 8 Status: Signed to 2023

A shining light from the moment he made his debut against Fremantle in Perth in round 16, Burgoyne showed poise beyond his years at half-back. Would not be surprised if the club tied the father-son young gun down over summer.

37. TAJ SCHOFIELD

Age: 19 Games: 0 Status: Delisted

The son of Power premiership wingman and ex-Port Adelaide assistant Jarrad Schofield was cut this month after two seasons as a rookie. Kicked 10 goals from 27 SANFL games.

38. DANTE VISENTINI

Age: 19 Games: 0 Status: Signed to 2025

The Power has high hopes for the ruck/forward who plays with aggression and has developed well in the SANFL. Its optimism was reflected by signing him to a two-year contract extension in March.

39. HUGH JACKSON

Age: 19 Games: 0 Status: Signed to 2023

Taken at pick 55 in last year’s draft, the former North Adelaide ball magnet missed a chunk of pre-season due to a hip injury. Played 14 SANFL games but would want to develop via a strong second campaign as he came towards the end of his contract.

41. JED McENTEE

Age: 21 Games: 10 Status: Out of contract

The Sturt product is out of contract but is set to be retained as a rookie. Played nine games this year, including the last five, making the most of the Power’s ravaged small forward stocks.

43. TRENT DUMONT

Age: 27 Games: 121 Status: Out of contract

Appears to have done enough to earn a contract extension but is still waiting. The former North Melbourne midfielder impressed in his first season at the Power, playing 10 games and working tirelessly.

44. JACKSON MEAD

Age: 20 Games: 11 Status: Signed to 2024

The son of inaugural Power star Darren Mead debuted in round 1 and played the first five games at AFL level, showing promise. Re-signed last week for two more years.

45. MARTIN FREDERICK

Age: 21 Games: 14 Status: Out of contract

The speedy half-back featured six times for the Power this year, including in three matches as the medical substitute. Been on the list for four years and is tipped to leave the club.

48. JAKE PASINI

Age: 20 Games: 0 Status: Signed to 2024

The club is a big fan of the West Australian tall defender, re-signing him in August despite him being sidelined with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
