WEST Adelaide will be without tough onballer Chris Schmidt for at least six weeks following surgery to repair a knee injury.

The veteran damaged his right knee in the frustrating loss to South Adelaide at Noarlunga Oval before last week’s bye and he had a “clean out”.

The Bloods have sent strong-marking forward Mason Middleton back to the reserves for tonight’s clash against Sturt at Richmond Oval after his indifferent start to the season.

Middleton is a vital cog in the Bloods’ line-up, but has struggled to have an impact in contests.

Nigel Osborn will make his league debut for the Bloods, reward for his perseverance.

The Double Blues have regained small forward Ben Hansen after shrugging off a shoulder problem. Hansen was limited to two games in the reserves last year while attempting to overcome a back issue and he made his first league appearance since 2017 against Woodville-West Torrens in the second round.

However, after a promising start, he hurt his shoulder in the first quarter.
