JO Sinor was so frustrated with lack of opportunities he seriously considered quitting Woodville-West Torrens after the 2016 season.
There had been only nine league appearances with most of his time spent in the reserves, prompting him to question his love for the game.
However, not only did Eagles coach Michael Godden and football manager Luke Powell convince him to persist, he played every league game last season in a new defensive role to become a massive component of the Eagles’ line-up.
Such was his rise to prominence, Sinor was named in The Advertiser Team of the Year as well as earning the SANFL Breakthrough Player award.
The growth of his game has been recognised with a spot in a SANFL’s top 50 determined by myself and Channel 7 and Mix 102.3 personality Mark Soderstrom.
Sinor will miss the first 12 weeks of the after breaking his leg in a trial against Port Adelaide at Noarlunga Oval last month. He had surgery to pin the bone, while he also damaged the ligaments in his ankle.
The players ranked from 21 to 30 have been named on Wednesday and Sinor has been selected at No. 22.
West Adelaide youngster Izak Rankine will also have a delayed start to the season following a three-week suspension for striking in a trial.
But he is an absolute gun and will be taken high in the national draft later this year. The small forward with incredible skills and tremendous pace has been named at No. 30.
