THE prized top spot on the SANFL ladder is up for grabs when Norwood hosts Woodville-West Torrens at The Parade on Friday.
The Redlegs are the competition pacesetters on the back of 10 successive wins, the latest a highly impressive 78-point win over West Adelaide last week.
Redlegs coach Jarrod Cotton claimed the performance was the club’s best win for the season.
While finishing in the top three and securing the vital double chance in the finals was the goal for the Redlegs entering the first round, that top spot is now within grasp.
“From our mindset and that of the players, it is just a week by week process,” Cotton said. “If we tick boxes every week top spot will take of itself.
“It is a massive thing to strive for without doubt, there is a such a big reward at the end of it. But we just want to focus clearly on the Eagles.
“If we tick that box it gives us every chance moving forward. There are three games after that and we need to keep ticking the boxes.”
The Eagles dropped to second on the points table after being beaten by Sturt at Woodville on Saturday.
Among the Redlegs’ winning streak is a 57-point victory over the Eagles in round seven.
“I’m confident in our group, but we are fully aware the Eagles are a quality side and have been for a long time,” Cotton said.
“They will be disappointed with the loss to Sturt. Sturt was excellent and the Eagles will want to bounce back.
“They are well coached and well drilled and have as much to play for as us.”
