Glenelg forward Josh Scott under injury cloud on eve of SANFL game against Norwood

Glenelg forward Josh Scott is a key component of the Tigers’ attack, but will he front Norwood at the Bay on Sunday?

SANFL Round 12 highlights

Gun forward Josh Scott is no certainty to return to the Glenelg line-up to front Norwood at the Bay on Sunday as he battles to shrug off an issue with the arm he broke in April.

Scott needed to negotiate training on Friday night and pull up without discomfort the following day to confirm his spot in the side after missing last week’s victory over Woodville-West Torrens when the Tigers ended a lengthy drought at Woodville Oval.

The strong-marking Tiger was heavily tackled in the final five minutes against Central District three weeks back and fell on his arm in similar fashion to when he broke it in round 3. Surgery was necessary to insert a plate and screws and he was sidelined for four games.

Although scans have cleared him of another break, there has been swelling in the arm.

“Scott has been doing everything right, but is frustrated after the scans showed the arm was okay,” Tigers football manager Paul Sandercock said.

Scott was among four players added to the 21 who got the job done against the Eagles, along with Will Gould, Finn Betterman and Rulla Kelly-Mansell.

Gould, named Under 18 All-Australian for the second successive year, is expected to survive the final cull on the strength of his impressive form before the national under 18 carnival.

The Redlegs have dropped Mac Bower and Cody Szust from the 25-man squad named on Thursday. Redlegs coach Jarrod Cotton must now decide which direction to take with his final team after regaining captain Jace Bode and Declan Hamilton from injuries and Dylan Stephens and Cameron Taheny from state under 18 commitments.

The SANFL is celebrating Indigenous Round this weekend and the Tigers will wear a jumper designed by Marlon Motlop and his cousin Keelan Fejo. Kelly Carbine, a Wirangu Kookatha woman from Port Lincoln, has designed the Redlegs jumper.
