Footballer Casey McElroy will contest her six week ban for playing in a men’s reserve side before an independent tribunal.
The 27-year-old from Padthaway was handed the ban after she took to the field for the Padthaway Lions men’s reserve team in the Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League on May 25.
The ban, if maintained, will see her miss almost all of the 2020 season for the Kybybolite Tigers women’s team.
On Tuesday, SANFL confirmed that McElroy had elected to have the ban heard before an independent tribunal next Tuesday.
“The Tribunal will determine the charge and sanction based on the evidence presented at the hearing and will not be bound by the set penalty offered,” a SANFL spokeswoman said.
McElroy’s lawyer James Norcock said he had engaged barrister Anthony Allen to discuss the grounds of the appeal.
“I can confirm that we have lodged the appeal and it is listed for next week” Mr Norcock said.
“We are going to keep our cards close to our chests as to details but she has certainly had a lot of support.”
