Adelaide Footy League Goals of the Week round 4

Round seven of the Adelaide Footy League season is done and dusted.

It was an entertaining weekend of action, with some teams continuing hot win streaks, and others coming from behind to claim thrilling upsets in the dying minutes.

Here are The Messenger’s reports for every division:

DIVISION ONE

Goodwood Saints coach Luke Donaldson said he was pleased with his team’s start to the season after they defeated Glenunga away from home – 10.8 (68) to 11.13 (79).

The victory marked Goodwood’s fourth straight in division one this year and saw the club jump up to third on the ladder, equal on points with St Peter’s OC and Port District at the top.

“I’ve been really pleased with the year we’ve had so far,” Donaldson said.

“We’ve been consistent around the ground except in front of goal, which we’re continuing to work on, and we’re also making sure we continue to bring youth through the side as well which has helped us to maintain a bit of competition for spots and develop well.”

It was a tough contest from start to finish against Glenunga, but the Saints managed to put their inconsistencies in front of goal behind them in the fourth term.

The visitors booted 5.3 to 4.1 to create a slither of breathing room and close out the win.

“It was really positive to see the boys grind out a win despite not having a great day at certain points. They stuck to the task for four quarters and gave it a red hot crack,” Donaldson said.

“We were able to get forward of the stoppage a bit in the final term and control territory to see it out, which was a good adjustment from the guys.”

While Goodwood was without captain Jacob Hughes, players like Nick Favretto, Tom Carter, Oliver Johnson and Scott Blesing stepped up to the task.

Donaldson was satisfied with what was a full team effort.

“Tommy (Carter) was terrific in the middle for us and so was Favretto – they were hard at it and definitely helped to set the tone and the rest followed,” he said.

“I think the fact we’ve had strong team efforts pretty much week in, week out is a great sign of what’s to come. Things are looking bright.”

St Peter’s OC continued its strong season so far with a. 18.11 (119) to 7.9 (51) effort against Old Ignatians.

Jake Sutcliffe (three), Luke Mitchell (three) and Jock McLeay (four) starred to kick multiple majors as the hosts used a six goal to none third term to stamp their authority on the game.

The result marks two consecutive wins for SPOC after their round five loss to Goodwood at home, while Old Iggies have now lost two straight.
