FORMER Carlton player Frazer Dale quickly decided Adelaide was the place to be to revive his AFL career this year and South Adelaide was the club he planned to do it with.
Dale, who played two games with the Blues before being delisted at the end of last season, arrived in SA this week and was impressed with South's setup.
"From just talking to people in footy, the place to be if you want to get back into the AFL system is the SANFL, given the success they've had with mature-age recruits,'' Dale, 20, said.
"I'm really impressed with (South) and all the facilities they've got at the club, so I'm really looking forward to playing some footy here."
Dale was also attracted to South because of his personal connection with new Panthers coach Brad Gotch.
Gotch's son, Seb, plays cricket in Melbourne with Dale's uncle, former Australian Test paceman Adam Dale.
"The experience that Brad has had in the AFL system was a real attraction,'' said Dale, who was also chased by Glenelg.
"He's got a really long background as an assistant coach in the AFL.
"When I came across, I had a good chat to him and we talked about where he thought he could help me with some goal setting and some elements of my footy."
Dale was one of the best endurance runners at Carlton and may find himself filling a running half-back role at South.
At 187cm, he also has the height to play on taller forwards and he can play on a wing or in attack.
Away from footy, Dale will work part-time at Morphettville under SA racehorse trainer Daniel Clarke.
He will also work part-time at South.
"I'm really excited to get back to playing in a club environment,'' Dale said.
"In the AFL, you're always playing for your career and your position on the list.
"It's going to be good to get back to playing for fun and for the team success."
