Ranked: Which schools have the most players in 2022 AFL Draft?

AFL’s power base remains with the private schools – but which ones dominated in the 2022 Draft? FULL LIST OF SCHOOLS

Footy’s hidden gems remain as elusive as ever, with Melbourne’s all-powerful private schools again dominating the AFL Draft.

In a sign of the ever-increasing stranglehold over the public system, nine of the top 10 picks were products of independent schools.

Only Bailey Humphrey (Lowanna College), chosen at pick 6 by the Suns, was out of the public school system.

More than 80 per cent of the top 2022 draft nominees analysed (72 private v 15 public) were out of the private school system, with Adelaide’s Sacred Heart College (seven), Victoria’s APS premiers Caulfield Grammar School (four) and Victoria’s Wesley College (four) providing the highest number of draft hopefuls.

The much vaunted Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS) and Sports Association for Adelaide Schools (ISSA) dominated the draft in terms of nominee numbers.

It was similar figures when comparing regional talents to metro.

Of the leading nominees analysed, country and regional schools provided 16 names in the draft, compared to 71 from city education systems.
