So-called “eight-point games” are still worth one point in tipping competitions – but that doesn’t make them any easier to predict.

As the season goes down to the wire and just eight points separating fifth and 14th on the ladder, picking a winner is trickier than ever.

This weekend the Bulldogs (fifth) face the Giants (seventh) at Mars Stadium in Ballarat, and North Melbourne and West Coast meet in a 17th vs 18th showdown.

But the game with most on the line is 11th-placed Essendon against 12th-placed Sydney.

The Swans are coming off a strong win against Fremantle in Perth and face the Bombers off the back off two big losses, but on their home deck at Marvel Stadium.

After the final siren on Saturday night, one of them will likely be planning for 2024 while the other stays alive in the finals race.
