A northeastern suburbs baptist school has been forced to isolate a new classroom after mould was discovered growing inside a student learning area.
A concerned student took photos of large mould spores on the roof of a new classroom at King’s Baptist Grammar School in Wynn Vale on Monday.
The student, who asked to remain anonymous, said the mould was inside a study room, where students had been working as recently as Friday.
The building was completed in 2022 as part of a major upgrade of the coeducational Christian school’s middle school campus.
King’s Baptist Grammar School principal Don Grimmett said the school was only made aware of the mould issue after inquiries from The Advertiser.
The space has since been closed off to students and undergone cleaning.
“While we would seek to receive such notification directly from students and/or staff, this was not the case in this instance,” Mr Grimmett said.
“You can rest assured that the space was isolated yesterday, the mould removed this morning, and the builder notified for rectification.”
King’s Baptist Grammar School opened a second campus in Mt Barker for reception to Year 2 students this year, with its junior school set to open in 2024 and middle school in 2027.
