Mount Barker will have a new private school by 2023 to meet the growing needs of the district.
Wynn-Vale-based King’s Baptist Grammar School has lodged plans with Mount Barker District Council to commence construction of its new $30 million Bollen Road campus.
If approved, stage one – worth $7.4 million — would commence building works late next year, meaning an Early Learning Centre and Reception to Year 2 would be ready for student intake by 2023.
School principal Don Grimmett said the stage one development had been designed to accommodate the growth of the school.
He said initial intake would be for 190 students, which includes 60 ELC placements, with early expressions of interest open now.
“King’s Baptist Grammar in Wynn Vale has been operating since 1983 and developed a unique community whereby the school and church work very close together,” he said.
“Mount Barker came up as an ideal place to duplicate that or even create another community around school and church as we see the town as a growing and thriving community.”
A partnership with Mt Barker Baptist Church, the campus will have sport, art and performing arts centres from the outset, while science, home economics and tech studies centres will be added later.
The multistage development will see additional year levels added year on year, with construction for a middle school campus planned for 2027.
A senior school will follow in 2031, with the first group of Year 12 students set to graduate in 2033.
“Parents are welcome to lodge their expressions of interest now, we’re open for those,” Mr Grimmett said.
“Enrolments will be formalised once we get the oficial okay from the council.”
King’s Baptist currently charges $5610 for junior primary and $7830 for Year 12.
