Girls at a North Adelaide private school will be able to wear pants for the first time in its more than 140-year history after a uniform revamp was announced.

The new uniform at all-girls Catholic school St Dominic’s Priory College will also introduce shorts and will replace its seasonal approach in favour of items which can be worn all-year-round.

The new items, which remain loyal to the reception to year 12 school’s colours of French navy, white and grey, are set to be introduced next year.

Students will also wear black school shoes instead of the brown of the previous St Dominic’s uniform.

Principal Helen Steele said the new uniform is “contemporary and meets the needs of our school community”.

“The community has shown overwhelming support for the new uniform,” Ms Steele said.

The changes have been in the works since 2021, when St Dominic’s sought feedback from its community and students.

St Dominic’s engaged uniform designer Noone and Campus School & College Wear to design the fresh items which worked closely with the college’s deputy principal Muriel Noujaim.

Students will have until the end of the 2027 school year to purchase the new items before they phase out the old uniform.

The new items will be available from the uniform shop in Welland from early December.

It comes after Walford Anglican School for Girls, in Hyde Park, introduced a revamped uniform for the first time in more than four decades.

The seasonal uniform was changed for Walford students in favour of items they can wear all year round from 2025.

The change came following a community survey in 2023, which revealed more than 70 per cent of respondents thought the Walford uniform needed a review.
