A top Adelaide private boys school has appointed a female deputy headmaster in a historic first.
Current senior school leader at Walford Anglican School for Girls, Georgina West, has been announced as the new deputy headmaster at Prince Alfred College.
Ms West is the first woman to be appointed as deputy headmaster and the second female secondary school leader in PAC’s more than 150 year history.
Ms West, who has been the head of Walford’s senior school since 2016, said she is looking forward “to getting to know the boys with regard to their strengths and interests, ensuring every boy is valued for his unique contribution”.
“It is a tremendous privilege to be joining Prince Alfred College, being a part of a community dedicated to nurturing the development of boys, supporting them to strive for personal excellence in every pursuit,” Ms West said.
“It is my belief that positive relationships form the conduit through which young people thrive and experience success.”
Ms West holds bachelor degrees in applied science and education from UniSA, a diploma of law from the University of Sydney and a master of education from the University of Melbourne.
She has taught legal studies, biology and science.
PAC headmaster David Roberts said the school has appointed “a highly experienced educator” in Ms West.
“We look forward to her leading our culture of academic excellence and development of well-rounded young men,” Mr Roberts said.
Ms West will begin her role at PAC, in Kent Town, in Term 1 next year and will succeed Greg Atterton who was announced as the next principal of Pulteney Grammar for 2025.
