Racers put the pedal to the metal as the 24-hour Australian International Pedal Prix kicked off at Murray Bridge on Saturday.
About 10,000 people are expected to attend the endurance race this weekend, which sees 140 entrants from SA and Victoria weave their way around the riverside track at Sturt Reserve.
After a Covid-19 enforced three-year absence, UniSA Australian HPV Super Series chief executive Marcus Lacey said it was a “major achievement in itself” just to be back racing.
“It’s great to be here in Murray Bridge... competing in glorious weather on the banks of the Murray,” he said.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing with at least one racing trike taking a little tumble round a corner, pictured.
This year’s 36th Pedal Prix – which runs continously for 24 hours – is also the sixth and final round of the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series.
Teams will race for category honours, as well as outright, with both school-based outfits and open racers taking to the track.
Pembroke, Murray Bridge High School and St Peters are among the senior school teams hitting the track this week.
The event continued overnight and will finish at noon on Sunday.
