A key central Nobby Beach site on the Gold Coast light rail route is on the market for the first time since the 1960s.
The “exceptionally rare” 870 sqm “blue chip” double block on the Gold Coast Highway will be auctioned on Thursday morning.
Marketed by Miami Beach Realty, it includes “one of the last vacant residential blocks in Mermaid Beach”.
“The prime beachside site presents an exceptional opportunity for redevelopment or renovation,” its listing reads.
“(It’s a) prime holding in arguably the most desired pocket of Mermaid Beach with Nobby’s precinct on your doorstep.”
Buyers will have the option of retaining the existing three-bedroom building which dates back to the 1960s, or developing it.
The land sits just 200m from the Nobby beachfront and directly next to where Stage 3 of the light rail is under construction.
The system is expected to be completed in late 2025 when its first passengers will begin travelling between Broadbeach and Burleigh.
It is the latest step of the transformation occurring on the tram route, with a new generation of towers and buildings announced or under construction.
Plans were lodged earlier this year with the council to demolish the retail strip on the corner of Glenelg Ave and Gold Coast Highway and replace it with the 11-storey Glenelg residences.
The project will have retail and commercial floorspace for businesses while the rest will be residential units.
