Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 4 fly-through

The building home to Burleigh Heads dining institution Justin Lane is on the market.

But Italian food fans have been reassured the restaurant is not going anywhere, despite being in the heart of the dramatically changing suburb as it undergoes a facelift with looming arrival of the light rail.

Colliers has been tapped to sell the 331 sqm site, but Gold Coast director-in-charge Steven King said it was unlikely it would be knocked down in the near future.

“It’s only a small land plot and any development would require amalgamation with surrounding lots,” he said.

“It offers a really good passive investment for the time being and there is so much happening in the Burleigh precinct right now, so the rents are escalating every few years.

“The owners in this area have seen phenomenal uplift in recent years.”

An expression of interest campaign on the building will run until June 11.

Justin Lane opened in the prominent location in 2011 and has become one of the suburb’s best-known eateries.

Its owners recently signed a new five-year lease for the building, meaning its sale will not interrupt the restaurant’s trading.

The building is also home to the Quikstop convenience shop, which has a seven-year lease.

It sits next to the light rail route, which will begin operating with passengers in 2026.

Mr King said the building, passed by 39,000 cars a day, would generate $297,841 annually in passive income for its owner.

“Burleigh is a hot spot here on the Gold Coast and is one of the most sought-after precincts, both residential and commercially,” he said.

“We have had a few sales happen around it recently and they have set a precedent.”

There have been several big sales of property in and around the James St precinct in the past two years, with more residential projects also tipped to be built.

No. 26, James Street sold for $7m in early 2022, while the former home of the Burleigh Tropicana was sold to developer Josh Guok for $9.38m last year, with a Betty; s Burger franchise set to move in.

Meanwhile, a seven-storey residential complex is earmarked for a site on West St fronting onto the James St precinct.
