An obsessed man allegedly sent radio queen Jackie O Henderson thousands of social media messages, convinced he was the father of her child, before police claim he planned to assault her with a makeshift weapon.
David Gourlay was allegedly infatuated with Henderson, sending flowers to her home, as well as thousands of Instagram messages and social media comments, before allegedly following her last week.
Police allege Gourlay “followed and harassed” Henderson in Sydney’s eastern suburbs last Thursday, prompting her to call police.
Officers arrested 38-year-old Gourlay in Clovelly shortly before 10.30am the following day, allegedly finding him with an improvised weapon.
The Telegraph can reveal the weapon was a large metal bolt that had been put inside a sock, which police will allege he planned to assault the KIIS FM host with.
Police sources alleged Gourlay’s messages to Henderson were often of a sexual nature, and that he was convinced he was the father of the star’s 14-year-old daughter.
Gourlay was taken to hospital for mental health assessment, and spent several days under observation, before he was discharged and arrested on Thursday afternoon.
He was charged with a raft of offences relating to Henderson, including four counts of stalking or intimidating with intent to cause fear or harm, using a carriage service to menace or harass, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and possessing an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.
He briefly faced court on Friday morning, where his solicitor asked the court to adjourn the case so his legal team could prepare a bail application.
Magistrate Greg Grogin adjourned the matter to July 21, with Gourlay set to remain behind bars on remand until then.
Meanwhile, an interim AVO has been taken out to protect Henderson from Gourlay, preventing him from contacting, or going anywhere near here or her home.
Henderson is currently on winter break from her Kiss FM program, and is spending time with her daughter in Fiji.
Gourlay’s arrest comes a year after she discussed her fear of stalkers on her program with co-host Kyle Sandilands.
“No one has turned up to my house thank god,” she said at the time.
Henderson is one of several Australian female celebrities, who have allegedly been stalked by fixated fans. Model Simone Holtznagel, actress Sophie Monk, and singer Delta Goodrem have also been the victims of fixated fans in recent years.
