A king tide is expected this Christmas Eve and residents in low-lying areas of Townsville are being urged to prepare their properties.
Areas affected include: South Townsville, Railway Estate, Hanran St and Odgen St in the CBD.
Townsville City Council expects the king tide to reach a peak of 3.82 metres around 9.53am on Saturday, December 24.
Those living in or visiting these areas should observe all warnings and road closures.
Residents should move any valuables and cars that could be damaged by salt water flooding.
King tides are common in January and February for these areas and will often flood roads for three to four hours.
