Two elderly men have been charged in relation to historic child sex offences, with detectives stating there may be more potential victims in North Queensland.

Detectives from the Mount Isa Child Protection and Investigation unit charged an 82-year-old with nine child sex offences, including six counts of indecent treatment of a girl under the age of 16.

A 74-year-old man has also been charged with one count of indecent treatment of a girl under the age of 17.

It will be alleged the offences were committed against one female child that was known to the men between 1970 and 1978 in Julia Creek, Boulia and Townsville.

The charges come as investigators appeal to anyone who may have experienced similar incidents between the 1960s and 1970s to come forward.
