Rackley Swimming have launched in two locations in Townsville, as the organisation aims at decreasing a statistic that shows year six students are unable to meet the national benchmark for swimming and water safety.

According to the Royal Lifesaving Australia, only 48 per cent of year six students meet the benchmark for swimming and water safety.

Rackley Swimming General Manager for North Queensland, Jason O’Pray, said the statistic needs to change and fast.

“Learning to swim should not be an optional skill, in a country like ours, surrounded by water, this is an essential and a lifesaving skill,” he said.

A skill that should be developed early in life.”

Mr O’Pray said the first step was getting into learn to swim classes as soon as possible.

“Over our 28-year history, as a family-owned swim school, we’ve provided more than eight million swim lessons across Queensland.

Rackley Swimming has opened up at the Tobruk Memorial Baths and at Northern Beaches Leisure Centre, offering programs such as learning to swim, supportive private lessons and adult learn to swim at both venues.

Mr O’Pray said they were doing their part to improve the statistic.

“We’re teaching more than just strokes, we’re building a culture of water safety, confidence and care, “ Mr O’Pray said.

“For our whole team, every lesson is a step toward safer, stronger swimmers and a safer future for all.”
