A South Townsville man has been rushed to hospital with cuts to his arm and chest after a violent altercation allegedly broke out at Hermit Park.

Police will allege that a 32-year-old Hermit Park man and 45-year-old South Townsville man got involved in an argument that turned physical at a Griffith St residence at about 3pm on Sunday.

Police will allege the younger man destroyed household items, including crockery and used a shard to wound the older man, who sustained cuts to his arm and chest.

The victim was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

The 32-year-old man was taken into custody a short time later in parkland on Dean Street.

Police believe the pair are known to each other.

The 32-year-old Hermit Park man has been charged with one count each of unlawful wounding and wilful damage.

He was denied police bail and will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday, October 31.
