Alleged Douglas hit-and-run leaves woman stranded

A Douglas woman is facing a hefty repair bill after her car was badly damaged in an alleged hit-and-run crash. Now, she’s calling on the driver who fled to step up and do the right thing. WATCH THE VIDEO.

Haylie Brodie is facing a hefty repair bill after her car was severely damaged in an alleged hit-and-run incident.

According to Ms Brodie, the accident occurred at the intersection of Riverside Boulevard and Angus Smith Drive in Douglas just after 6pm on Monday as she was driving home.

“I was going 60ks along that road and my light was green the whole time, so I had the right of way,” she recounted.

“There were two cars in front of me that turned right, and as I was going straight through the lights, a car coming from the opposite side started turning left right into me.”

Despite slamming on her brakes, Haylie’s car collided with the turning vehicle.

“All my airbags went off, and I hopped out of my car because it was just stuck in the intersection,” she said.

“But the other car, they were just gone. They didn’t stop at all.”

She claims the impact left her car with a broken bumper, smashed windscreen, and extensive damage to the passenger side.

She also says she suffered injuries, including pain in her wrist and forearm, that required a hospital visit.

“I had a really bad pain in my wrist and my forearm, and it’s really swollen, and it’s got a few scratches and bruises on it, and then I got a bruise on my chest from the airbag,” Haylie said.

With only third-party insurance, Haylie says she is now facing a hefty repair bill until she can track down the other driver.

“If they just owned up and said, ‘Hey, sorry,’ I would rather if they had stopped and just done something,” she said.

Haylie is hopeful that someone may recognise the vehicle from her dashcam footage, which captured the incident.

For now, Haylie is left to deal with the aftermath of the crash, hoping the other driver will come forward to be accountable.

“It’s not like I’m pissed at them,” she said.

“I just would rather if they had stopped and done the right thing.”
