13-year-old arrested for attempted car theft overnight

Detectives have charged a 13-year-old boy for several attempted car thefts at a “Hervey Range Road shopping centre” last night.

The arrest is part of ‘Operation Whiskey Legion’ - an influx of additional police officers working in the Townsville area since September 11.

Detectives have charged a 13-year-old boy for several attempted car thefts at a Hervey Range Road shopping centre last night.

It will be alleged police were called to a Riverway Dr service station at Thuringowa Central just after 8pm following reports of a disturbance.

Upon arrival officers located a 13-year-old boy, and he was taken into custody a short time later.

Police will allege the boy was involved in multiple attempted car thefts at a Hervey Range Road shopping centre a few hours before his arrest.

No one was physically injured.

The boy has since been charged with four counts of attempted unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count of serious assault police.

He was refused police bail and appeared in Townsville Childrens Court today, September 14.
