Reigning premiers Richmond and the Western Bulldogs loom as the likely two clubs to fill the remaining slots for Cairns’ upcoming games.
With three teams revealed, Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle, the AFL is yet to clarify when they will play at Cazalys Stadium, and who will play each other.
The block of Cairns games begin September 5, during rounds 15-18 of the season.
The AFL yesterday said they would not announce Rounds 14-17 until later this week, with Round 18 potentially being a floating fixture, which could be changed on the fly to maximise marquee games.
Bulldogs officials have indicated privately they are a strong chance to head to north Queensland for one game, while the AFL website on Wednesday mooted the Tigers as a potential visitor.
The Dockers, who are certain to head to Cairns and stay in a hub, are yet to play Melbourne, Richmond and the Bulldogs, suggesting they will play at least two games.
The Bulldogs play Melbourne in Round 13 on the Gold Coast and have already played the Swans.
Sydney are yet to play Melbourne and will face the Dockers Round 13.
Richmond have not yet played the Dockers and could head north for one game.
Fremantle football boss Peter Bell said the chance to train together was vital.
“The opportunity to train and play together in Cairns will add to the significant growth we have already made as a young team, in a short period of time,” Bell said.
