Woodland Grove, Newnham: Man charged after allegedly ramming car into fence

A 30-year-old man has been charged with assault in relation to an incident in Newnham on Monday evening.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene on Woodland Grove about 5pm, after a pedestrian was reportedly struck with a motor vehicle.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene before being taken to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe this was an isolated incident between people known to each other.

The man has been taken into custody to appear this evening before an after hours hearing at the Launceston Magistrates Court.

October 17: Tasmania Police are investigating after a man was hunted down by a pursuing vehicle and rammed in suburban Launceston.

The incident occurred on Woodland Grove at Newnham about 5pm yesterday.

“Initial inquiries indicate an altercation occurred before a person was struck by a vehicle and pushed into a fence,” police said.

“The person was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.”

“Police believe this was an isolated incident between people known to each other, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.”
