A sparkling winter wonderland will take over the Hobart waterfront on Saturday, with some lucky enough to withstand the cold able to take home some glittering treasure.

Tasmanian-based business Francesca Jewellery has partnered with the City of Hobart as part of its launch of the Bold and Cold Winter Capsule Collection.

Ice slabs containing Francesca Jewellery pieces from the new collection will be placed throughout the site, waiting to be melted open by brave participants using only their hands or breath.

Any jewellery successfully defrosted can be taken home.

The Bold and Cold collection features statement pieces designed to elevate winter style, proving that the colder months are a time to shine.

To help warm up, the first 100 participants will receive a free coffee or hot chocolate from local favourite Staple Coffee.

The City of Hobart is encouraging people to come along, embrace the chill, and enjoy a sparkling winter experience.

Francesca Jewellery Co-Founder and Creative Director Rachel Vasicek said the event was about creating a moment that “captured the essence” of their new collection.

“We wanted to create a moment that captures the essence of the collection — embracing boldness, seasonality, and a bit of fun,” she said.

“Some frosty fingers are definitely worth it!”

Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said Francesca was a true Hobart success story.

“This event is not only a cool way to showcase their locally designed jewellery, but also highlights the warmth and generosity that Francesca brings to Hobart,” she said.

“Francesca’s support for women from refugee backgrounds is currently being featured in the city’s Warm Hearts campaign which is showcasing stories of kindness in our Hobart community.”

The ‘Melt and Win’ event starts at 10am on Saturday and goes until 1pm at Hobart’s Mawson Place.
