A Huon Valley farm has been fined $40,000 for violating work health and safety standards.
Glenburn Orchards manager Maree Harvey appeared in front of the Hobart Magistrates Court via videolink on Friday.
The company changed to a guilty plea on Friday after a lengthy series of court appearances spanning back several months.
The Cygnet-based family farm pleaded guilty to a category two breach of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012.
The act defines a category two offence as “failure to comply with a health and safety duty that exposes a person to risk of death, serious injury, or illness.”
The farm is a major producer of apples and cherries in the Huon Valley region, supplying the Chinese market through the e-commerce giant Alibaba.
Magistrate Michael Daly recorded a conviction for the charge and fined the company $40,000, which must be paid within 28 days.
