Young man charged with elderly woman’s death after Steelton 4WD crash

A Duncan man has been charged with an elderly woman’s death after she succumbed to her injuries after his 4WD collided with her Mazda.

A young man has been charged over the death of an elderly woman who succumbed to her injuries after a crash at Steelton.

A Toyota 4WD and a Mazda sedan crashed at the intersection of Steelton Rd and Main Rd on December 18.

The Mazda driver, a 70-year-old man and his passenger, an 80-year-old woman both from Parrakie, were flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.

The woman died two days later.

The driver of the Toyota, a 28-year-old Duncan man who suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital, was arrested on Wednesday by Major Crash Investigators.

He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and was issued with an indefinite immediate loss of licence. He was bailed to appear in the Clare Magistrates Court on February 5.

The woman’s was the 112th life lost on South Australian roads this year compared to 67 at the same time last year.
