Many South Australians are waking up to frosted cars and an icy start as overnight temperatures plummeted well below zero in parts of the state.
At 6am on Monday, Adelaide dropped to a low of just 3.2C ahead of a forecast top of 16C.
But spare a thought for those in Yunta in the state’s North East Pastoral district – about 275km from Adelaide – where it dropped to -4.8C at 6.30am.
It was also very fresh in the state’s South-East, with temperatures dipping below zero at Keith, with -1.9C at 6am and -2.1C at Robe.
The state is expected to stay dry on Monday before rain sets in on Tuesday, with Adelaide tipped for showers from the morning with up to 3mm.
It is set to be wetter from Wednesday with up to 10mm expected to fall on the city with the chance of thunderstorms before forecasts of up to 15mm on Thursday.
Senior Meteorologist Angus Hines told The Advertiser the cool air was being drawn from “across southern and eastern South Australia”.
“Settled weather and clearing skies overnight Sunday into Monday morning will lead to a chilly start in the new week,” he said.
Mr Hines said Monday’s weather conditions for Adelaide were significantly below the June average for minimum temperatures of 8.5C.
“The coldest morning (in Adelaide) so far in June was Sunday the 2nd when the minimum temperature clocked in at 4C,” he said.
