Winter descended into early spring this morning, with a sinking cold snap enveloping much of the state.
In the city, the mercury plummeted to just 4.3C just after 6am this morning.
But in the northern suburbs, the chill hit even harder.
A low of 1.1 was recorded in Edinburgh – and it was even colder further north, with subzero temperatures recorded in Roseworthy (-0.5C) and Nuriootpa (-0.7C).
The last time the mercury dipped below 4.3C in the city was in July, when a reading of just 0.6 was recorded.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Simon Timcke blamed the “pretty chilly” conditions on a lack of cloud cover.
Mr Timcke urged footy fans headed to tonight’s final to prepare for cooler conditions.
“It will be cool,” he said.
“The high of Friday will be 18C in the city, but dropping down to 9 or 10C by the end of the game.”
Adelaide should be partly cloudy today and tomorrow, leading into a sunny Sunday.
