The white knight that saved Heidelberg Cakes from closure has been revealed to be Unique Homestyle Foods.
The owner of the Richmond-based wholesale bakery, Matt Brown, got in contact with Heidelberg Cakes on November 29, almost immediately after the news of the liquidation went live to discuss a takeover.
One of the largest bakeries in South Australia, Unique Homestyle Foods is family-run with over 250 employees.
Now Heidelberg Cakes will be back in operation tomorrow, less than 2 weeks since it announced liquidation under former owner, Mr. Cheesecake from Vivid Pastries.
James Schmidt, head executive chef and former owner of Heidelberg Cakes, said they’re ‘really excited’ to be back in business again.
“Matt (Brown) said that he’s going to honour all orders, that even if they’re paid in full, we’re going to make them,” Mr Schmidt said.
“He’s going to honour all those deposits and make the cakes for a lesser price, which is a really, really nice thing to do.”
However, the cake business will run as a separate business under Unique Homestyle Foods and continue with the same team in Stepney.
